Should I Build My Website From Scratch?

     

This is a question a lot of people wanting to have their own websites are often faced it. Different people want to have a website for different reasons. It could be for business, as a platform to make products and services known and available to more prospective buyers; could be a personal website, where one intend to share contents like information, news, and medias to targeted audience, or could be a website for an organization. Whichever purpose a website is serving, there is a common thing that determines how well a website is going to flourish and that is the quality. The quality of a website ranges from how easy it is to navigate through the website, how well arranged the contents are, to how precise and authentic the website is, i.e does the website as a whole communicate its aim to visitors at first glance? Fortunately there are a lot of builders today that help build good websites, WordPress being one of the most popular of them. These builders have ready made themes that can be easily modified and designed. With little or no knowledge of coding at all, you can achieve a well beautifully designed website.

     

Many of the websites builders are quite sophisticated, allowing you to customize or add your own HTML, CSS or JavaScript at some points (that is if you code anyway), but despite their efforts, these builders will probably never be as good as building custom sites. This is because the website builders have to be coded by website designers and developers, who are trying to make them as easy as they can be for the nontechnical customers to use, therefore they will never be able to be better than websites actually built by designers.

   

Another thing is that sometimes some people have a specific design in mind for their website, a particular blueprint of how information and contents should be arranged to best suit the type of the website that they want to have. Now there is a limit to how much one can design a website to one's taste while using the website builders as you just have to follow the patterns laid out by the themes provided by these builders. This also results in many sites ending up looking similar or less authentic. This of course does not pose a major problem as there are thousands of themes to choose from and there a lot of ways one can modify these themes, thus, the chances of having too many similar sites can be overlooked. Well many people may not even worry about this. Nonetheless, a lot of people hold authenticity in high regards and the answer is a custom built site.

     

Building a site with the builders is fast and cheap but if you want quality, hire a designer. Even if you will decide to go for builders, you would agree with me that the way a designer would be able to understand and work with these applications to build a quality website for you would be somewhat different from when you sit down yourself to try to find your way around these website builders, especially if you are not interested in these kinds of things or maybe don't have the time. If you however are running a blog or just a small static site, then you may want to directly be behind the wheels and website builders like WordPress are very recommendable if you are blogging. If your site is going to be a considerately robust one or you don't have the time or interest to start groping your way around website builders, your best option is to hire a designer to do the task for you.
